Efficient Die and Mould Handling with Short Headroom Crane Solution

Industry:
Manufacturing (Tooling and Moulds)

About the Customer:
A major player in the tooling and moulding industry, this customer aimed to maximize the utility of their existing tool room by optimizing space to handle dies and moulds efficiently within a compact area. The tool room space presented significant spatial constraints, requiring a tailored material handling solution that would fit within the limited headroom.

The Challenge:
The customer required a 10/5-ton Double Girder Electric Overhead Traveling (DGEOT) crane for handling dies and moulds. Key challenges included:

  • Limited Headroom: The available headroom was only 1650 mm from the top of the gantry bracket, restricting standard crane installations.
  • Space Optimization: The crane had to be designed to fit within the compact area while maximizing lifting height and functionality.
  • Challenging Installation Conditions: Installing the crane in the tight space required precise planning and expert installation to ensure successful commissioning.

The Solution:
Sparkline designed a modular, short-headroom crane solution to meet the unique constraints of the site. Key aspects of the solution included:

  1. Customized Low-Headroom Design: To fit the crane within the compact tool room, Sparkline engineered a gantry girder, crane girder, and double hoist configuration to optimize space. The crane height was designed at 1530 mm, leaving a clearance of just 120 mm to the roof, which maximized available headroom for lifting operations.
  2. Adapted Installation Strategy: Given the space limitations, Sparkline’s experienced installation team employed specialized techniques to install the crane within one week. This efficient installation minimized downtime and allowed the customer to quickly transition to using the new handling system.

A Statement of Overall Benefit:
Sparkline’s compact, modular crane solution enabled the customer to efficiently handle dies and moulds within their existing tool room, overcoming space limitations and providing a highly functional, low-headroom material handling system.

Benefits:

  • Efficient Use of Limited Space: The low-headroom design maximized lifting height within the compact room, allowing optimal use of the tool room without requiring additional structural modifications.
  • Quick Installation: Sparkline’s expert installation team completed the project within one week, minimizing disruption and enabling the customer to resume operations swiftly.
  • Enhanced Handling Capability: The new crane system allowed for seamless handling of dies and moulds, supporting production efficiency in the compact space.

Sparkline’s tailored solution provided the customer with a robust, space-optimized material handling system that met their die and mould handling needs, enhancing operational capacity within their existing tool room.
